Our Story

Beautiful designs & quality craftsmanship.

At Jane Blease we design and make wooden lighting, homewares and accessories. Our focus is on creating sustainable, quality products with simple elegance and attention to detail to fit into any environment.

History & Influences

From handcrafted wooden lampshades, table lamps and wall lamps to artwork, brooches, bookmarks and necklaces; each piece is intricately laser cut, meticulously hand-embroidered and carefully constructed from delicate wood veneers. Our process is a contemporary take on traditional embroidery, using wood like a fabric, which is then delicately worked upon and embellished.

Jane's love of the great outdoors is undoubtedly her main inspiration. Everything is inspired by nature. From the sustainably sourced FSC certified wood, through to the circular and floral designs which sit perfectly within the organically flowing grain in the wood. The tactile hand embroidery, in often vibrant colour combinations inspired by her travels, adds real texture to the surface of the wood and blends beautifully with all the naturally occurring and varied tones of the veneers.

Jane has always been interested in woodwork, remembering as a young girl her dads 'projects' such as the house on stilts he built at the end of the garden. It always appealed to her that you could make just about anything from wood. She used to sit and stitch with her grandmother as a child, which greatly influenced her process. From an early age Jane had a passion for art, she knew she wanted to design and create for the rest of her life and from her childhood experiences the unexpected marriage of wood and thread was born.

Sustainability being at the core of the Jane Blease ethos, we use only FSC certified suppliers for our wood. The Ash being the palest of the three veneers available is a very blonde wood which when lit emits a wonderful warm glow similar to that of an open fire. The Oak, is a lovely rich warm colour which also glows when lit, with green and pink tones running through it. The Walnut is much deeper in tone, with chocolate brown and sometimes charcoal tones running through it. It creates a more dramatic mood light, giving a slight reddish glow when lit and casting wonderful shadows on surrounding walls. The contrast of the light coming through the holes with the dark wood is stunning.
